StandingTall Pty Ltd is a joint venture between NeuRA and Talke Innovation. It brings together some of the most experienced commercial, research and co-design capabilities in the world. There is a strong research collaboration between the leading falls prevention team at NeuRA, the University of Auckland and NIHI. In conjunction with our local implementation partners, Microsoft and Spark Health, we can deliver the most inclusive, proven falls prevention solution for New Zealanders.

The Falls, Balance and Injury Research Centre at NeuRA in Sydney, Australia is one of the pre-eminent Falls research facilities in the world and has a staff of 25 fulltime researchers.

Professor Peter Schofield AO

FAHMS, BScAgr (Syd), PhD (ANU), DSc (UNSW)

Peter is a Director of StandingTall and the CEO of Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA), one of Australia's leading centres for neuroscience research, and a Professor of Medicine at UNSW Sydney. He has worked in both the biotechnology industry and in medical research institutes in the US, Germany and Australia. He has published over 400 papers. Peter is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and has served on many scientific advocacy bodies, most recently including the NHMRC National Institute of Dementia Research. In 2019 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medical and scientific research in the field of neuroscience, and to professional institutions.

Professor Kim Delbaere - Scientific Founder

Kim is the inventor of StandingTall. For 20 years, Kim has been successful at developing novel methods of applying technology to healthy ageing and falls prevention, in both healthy older people and those with a range of chronic diseases. Her contributions to medical research have been recognised through prestigious excellence awards from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. For the last 15 years, her research has focused on creating a digital solution to addressing balance, strength and falls that is intuitive enough to be used by anyone at any time.

Professor Stephen Lord - scientific advisor

PhD, DSc

Senior Principal Research Fellow at Neuroscience Research Australia, Sydney, Australia. He has published over 400 papers in the areas of balance, gait and falls in older people and is acknowledged as a leading international researcher in his field. He specialises in the identification of physiological risk factors for falls and the development and evaluation of fall prevention strategies leading to the design and evaluation of exercise programs for older people including those at increased risk of falls, i.e. people with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, dementia and frailty. In December 2019, Stephen was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the President of the British Geriatrics Society in recognition for his contribution to falls research.

Professor Ngaire Kerse MNZM

MBChB 1984, (Otago) PhD Medicine (University of Melbourne), Joyce Cook Chair in Ageing Well at the University of Auckland

 

Ngaire is recognised as an international expert in falls prevention for older people. She is an author on four Cochrane reviews and has led and co-led 8 falls prevention trials in the community. Ngaire is a well established researcher who has won and administered over 50 large grants from competitive funding bodies and has published over 300 publications in a range of journals. She has extensive research, practice and community networks and is a sought after speaker for local, national and international events.

Ngaire is a chief investigator on a project, funded by the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, which aims to understand the unique requirements and aspirations of Māori communities in relation to StandingTall.

Professor Chris Bullen

Chris is the Academic Director of NIHI, Deputy Head of the School of Population Health and Director of the postgraduate education programme in public health, at the University of Auckland. He has wide research interests across tobacco control, global health, heart disease prevention and treatment, and health technologies.

Under Chris's leadership, NIHI will guide the adaptations of the StandingTall app for New Zealand using a co-design approach with Māori and Pasifika communities. This will ensure that StandingTall will be a culturally tailored programme, underpinned by Te Tiriti principles of partnership, participation, and protection.

David Anstee - Business Founder and CEO

Seasoned start-up professional with a passion for improving the lives of the most needy in our ageing population, focusing on innovation within aged care, including social isolation, mental health and dementia​.

As an experienced innovator in health, David has built Talke to become a leader in translating wonderful research that supports our ageing communities and helps them prosper. Talke delivers digital health solutions to help maintain the independence and respect for people ageing at home. They developed Rapporr to better connect and support people living at home with Dementia. David designed the UNSW Ageing Futures Institute and has been selected as a Chief Investigator on the leading Grant designed to foster a cross university approach to adaptive Ageing excellence.

Gary Rogers - commercial partner

Gary is an experienced technology and media lawyer with over 30 years’ experience in the UK, Australia and the US. He has a particular expertise in assisting entrepreneurial clients and has been involved in advising many start-up clients, from inception of an idea through to commercialisation and expansion. He is well-known for his ability to apply his legal skills in a commercial context, and is always seeking to add value to his clients. Gary co-founded Talke to be more directly involved in technology innovation, particularly in the health and ageing sectors. Through Talke, he has been an adviser to Neuroscience Research Australia, consulting in relation to the commercialisation of intellectual property.

Dr. Mike Bainbridge - Chief information officer

Mike is an expert in digital health. He is an internationally recognised clinical informatician and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria in British Columbia. Formerly Mike designed UK GP systems and delivered national change management as the Technical Director for UK Primary Care Information Services (PRIMIS). He became the Clinical Architect of the NHS before coming to Australia in 2011 to work on My Health Record as a Clinical Governance Lead. More recently he has worked as the APAC clinical lead for SNOMED international and the Digital Health expert for the Asian Development Bank.
